How Veneer Properties Affect Drying Speed

05 March,2025
  1. Wood Species
    1. High-density woods dry slower because they have smaller pores and thicker walls, making it harder for moisture to move out.
    2. Low-density woods dry faster because they have larger pores and less resistance to moisture movement.
  2. Initial Moisture Content
    1. Higher moisture content means longer drying time because more water has to evaporate.
  3. Thickness
    1. Thicker veneers take longer to dry because moisture has to travel further from the inside to the surface.
    2. Thinner veneers dry faster because moisture can move more easily.

Optimization Tips for Better Drying

To ensure even moisture content in the veneers, you should sort the veneers before drying based on:

  1. Wood species
  2. Initial moisture content
  3. Veneer thickness

Then, adjust the drying conditions for each group to improve efficiency and get consistent drying results.
