Before hot press, the board should enter the cold press machine for a short time at normal temperature to bond the veneers together by the initial viscosity of the glue, this process is also called pre-pressing.
In this process, no pad is required for loading and unloading.
Plywood Cold press time :
The pre-pressing time of urea-formaldehyde glue is 40-200 minutes, while it should be 20-120 minutes for Phenolic glue.
What’s the difference of Urea-formaldehyde glue(MR Glue) between plywood cold press glue and plywood hot press glue?
1. In cold press, polyvinyl alcohol is required in Urea-formaldehyde glue to improve the initial viscosity and shorten the cold-pressing time
2. The curing agent (such as ammonium chloride) also required to speed up the curing speed and improve the cold-pressing effect.
Plywood Cold-pressed time varied with different type glue
1. Phenolic glue has a shorter cold-pressing time than urea-formaldehyde glue: phenolic glue has high viscosity and poor fluidity during cold pressing, and can achieve the required bonding strength faster
2. Environmentally friendly glue has a longer cold-pressing time than urea-formaldehyde glue: formaldehyde can enhance the adhesion and durability of glue, and the formaldehyde content in environmentally friendly glue is low.
