What Are Directions of Veneer Feeding in Dryers

08 March,2025

In dryers, Veneer boards can be fed in two main ways: longitudinal feeding and transverse feeding. The choice depends on how the boards are positioned relative to the direction of the wood fibers in the veneer.

1. Longitudinal Feeding

- What it is: The boards are fed in the same direction as the wood fibers.

- Where it's used: This method is typically used for drying single sheets of veneer, especially in roller-type dryers.

Advantages:

- Works well for drying individual sheets.

- Keeps the fibers straight, which helps the veneer dry evenly.

2. Transverse Feeding

- What it is: The boards are fed sideways (perpendicular) to the direction of the wood fibers.

- Where it's used: This method is mainly used for drying long, continuous strips of veneer, which can be cut to size after drying.

- Why it's important: It’s a newer and more efficient way to dry veneer, often used in modern jet-type mesh belt dryers.

- Advantages:

- Great for processing long strips of veneer continuously.

- Makes it easier to cut and customize the veneer after drying.

By choosing the right feeding method, the drying process can be adjusted to suit different materials and production needs.Longitudinal feeding is best for single sheets, while transverse feeding is ideal for high-volume, continuous production.
